Welcome Coomera Cougars Basketball Club

The North Gold Coast Seahawks are pleased to announce the addition of the Coomera Cougars Basketball Club to our Southport Yacht Club Junior Basketball Competition. The Coomera Cougars become the 9th club in our booming junior competition which is now around the 5th largest junior competition in Queensland.

With the Coomera area growing so rapidly, adding another club in the area was a priority to help support our current and future members. The association has experienced incredible growth since the return from Covid in 2020 to now have over 2500 players.

The Cougars will be hitting the hardwood for the upcoming 2023 Season 1 competition which will commence when school returns in 2023. Registration for that season will open in mid-November and we encourage people to register early to secure a place.

"It's going to be great to see boys and girls running around the courts enjoying their basketball in another club's colours in 2023" said Seahawks President Ben McGrath.

"It's been a priority of ours to establish a new club in the area for some time and it's exciting to see that now coming to fruition"

The Cougars will be operated internally by the Seahawks administration in the short term while we establish a membership base and can identify a suitable group of volunteers to steer the club in to the future.

"The success of any of our clubs is reliant on having a great group of volunteers. Having people step up from day 1 to coach and be team managers will be imperative for the club to succeed" explained General Manager Dan Linderman.

"We have a fantastic community of volunteers already, so I'm sure those who become our foundation Cougars members will be no different."

The Cougars join our existing 8 clubs, the Coombabah Clippers, Coomera Anglican College, Coomera City Warriors, Gold Coast Wildcats, Helensvale Hurricanes, Pimpama Pelicans, Saint Stephen's College Chargers and Tamborine Mountain Wolves.
