The North Gold Coast Seahawks are excited to announce that expressions of interest for our upcoming Referee School are open now, providing the perfect opportunity for new officials to begin their refereeing journey.

Whether you’re a current player, former player, parent, or simply someone who enjoys basketball, refereeing offers a unique way to stay connected to the sport while developing valuable life skills.

Many of today’s experienced referees, coaches and basketball administrators began their journey by officiating junior domestic games. It’s a pathway that can take you as far as you want to go—from local competitions through to representative basketball and beyond.

Who Can Join?

Our Referee School is designed specifically for new referees aged 14 years and over. No previous refereeing experience is required—just a willingness to learn and a positive attitude. Our experienced referee educators will guide participants through the fundamentals of officiating and provide ongoing support as they transition onto the court.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the Referee School, participants will gain an understanding of:

Basketball rules and game management.
Court positioning and mechanics.
Signals and communication.
Decision-making under pressure.
Working effectively with fellow officials, coaches and players.

After completing the course, new referees will receive mentoring and practical on-court experience to help build confidence in a supportive environment.
