QSL Saturday 26th September vs Ipswich Force

This Saturday night at The Nest sees the SmartSkill Seahawks Women and Seahawks Men’s team take on the Ipswich Force.

For the Men’s team it doesn’t get any easier coming up against the 4th placed Force side which includes current Australian Boomer and Brisbane Bullets guard Nathan Sobey along with veterans Ryan Jeffries and Jason Ralph.

Head Coach of the Seahawks Men’s team Brad Kann has given his side strict instructions for this weekend’s match up.

“We need to compete for the full 40 minutes” said Kann.

“I said after last week’s game I thought our second half was our best half of the year, but it was our start that got us on the back foot from the beginning”

“If we start on the back foot with someone of Nathan Sobey's class this weekend, we will be chasing them for the remainder of the game”

Asked about who would start out on Sobey this weekend with Kann leaning towards starting athletic guard Donovan Russell to contain the current Boomer.

“Donny is our most athletic player so he will get the jump early on Sobey”

“We will have to throw a few different looks at the Ipswich team, just to disrupt and not let them get comfortable”

For the SmartSkill Seahawks Women side, it will be a battle of 8th vs 9th which should bring the Seahawks faithful to life at the Nest.

With the return of the young brigade to the side this weekend, Head Coach Paula Jansen is confident her team can turn around from the disappointing loss to the Logan Thunder.

“We obviously hurt with our depth last weekend, so it will be great to have our young core back” said Jansen.

“I think we match up really well with the guard play of Ipswich. They take a lot of shots from the perimeter, so if we can buckle down and stay in front of our player, I believe we are a real chance of winning this game”

Jansen will be looking for more from her Senior statesmen this week, with Emily Allen having a rare off shooting night (1-15) against the Thunder Women’s side.

“Em is such a key to our offence”

“We need her continuing to make plays and take the shots when they come to her. We really need her to stay confident and aggressive on the offensive end of the floor”

SmartSkill Women’s team tip off at 5:30pm

Seahawks Men’s team tip off at 7:30pm

Livestream for both games will be played through the North Gold Coast Seahawks Basketball Facebook page.
