In the final Home game for season 2020, our SmartSkill Seahawks Women and Men’s teams take on the USC RIP this Saturday night at the Nest.
In a COVID19 disrupted season, both Men’s and Women’s teams have fought through adversity and given the faithful Seahawk nation something to be excited about for the future.
The SmartSkill Seahawks Women’s squad have fell just short of playoff contention, with close loses to the Northside Wizards in the opening round as well close loses to Gold Coast, Southern Districts and last weekend to Ipswich Force.
To round out the season, Head Coach Paula Jansen is wanting her troops to close out the season in style.
“We haven’t quite gotten to the level we set out to do at the start of the season” said Jansen.
“We obviously had goals to reach the playoffs but missing some bodies during key games as well as a delayed start to the season has made it a challenge to say the least”
“For the game against the RIP this weekend, I want everyone to put forward 100% effort on both ends of the floors and get a win to finish off the season”
For the visitors, a major focus will need to be on key player Maddi Rocci who is tearing up the QSL right now, averaging 33ppg and 10rpg.
“Rocci is key for the RIP – if we can reduce her effectiveness, it will go a long way to us winning this game”
For the Men, it’s been a tough season coming up against NBL1 quality players week in week out but Head Coach Brad Kann believes his team are better than where they started the season at.
“I am extremely proud of our group” said Kann.
“It’s obviously been tough with some of the losses we have been a part of, but I will give credit where credit is due, the team continues to turn up to practice each week and they continue to work hard which has shown in their game performances”
“We have gone into each game with a strict plan, and for the majority of it the team has executed the plan well”
“We will do the same thing this Saturday night vs USC and hopefully give our fans their first win of the season”
SmartSkill Women tip off at 5:30pm / Men tip off at 7:30pm.
