QSL RECAP | Round 7 vs Logan Thunder

In a tough weekend for the SmartSkill Seahawks Women and Seahawks Men’s QSL team, with both teams succumbing to the highly talented and more experienced Logan Thunder teams this past Saturday at the Nest.

In what was somewhat of a weird start to the matchup for the SmartSkill Seahawks Women and Logan Thunder game, both teams’ player lists hinged on results from the CBSQ tournament being played throughout last week.

For the SmartSkill Women’s side, they were without their young guns in Ella Brow, Indie Bowyer, Yarra Adnum, Nita Tuhega and Josie Josiah which left the side with 7 players. The Logan side we were without their young contingency as well.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the SmartSkill Seahawks Women, coming up against the undefeated Thunder side loaded with talent.

For the SmartSkill Seahawks Women, Aimee Durbidge stood up on Saturday night with 17 points, 4 rebounds on 50% shooting for the game, with Lauren Jansen putting in another all-round performance 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals.

For the visiting Logan team, Mikaela Ruef point on a dominant display with 37 points on 18/22 shooting, 32 rebounds (14 Offensive).

The Seahawks Men’s QSL team had their closest battle of the season, eventually going down to the highly experienced Logan outfit 70-85.

Led by captain Jesse Lomax who finished the game with 17 points 7 rebounds, the Seahawks gave the Thunder a scare in the 4th quarter, forcing the Head Coach to inject his starters back into the game to close out the feisty Seahawks outfit.

Head Coach of the Seahawks QSL Men’s team Brad Kann, commended his team for their second half effort on Saturday night.

“I thought that was our best second half of the year” said Kann.

“I thought Jesse (Lomax) really led us well, particularly in the 4th quarter to bring back the lead of the Thunder team”

“I was a little disappointed with the way we started the game. I thought our effort and energy wasn’t there, myself included”

Supporting Lomax was David Fynn who finished the game with 11 points, 3 rebounds and Donovan Russell who finished the game with a perfect shooting line, going 5 for 5 for the game with 4 of those being threes.

The next Home game is this Saturday night vs Ipswich Force. Women’s game is a 5:30pm tip off and the Men’s is at 7:30pm. A livestream of both games will be on the North Gold Coast Seahawks Basketball Facebook page.
