Player Announcement – Tamuri Wigness

The North Gold Coast Seahawks NBL1 North Men’s team welcome Brisbane Bullets player, Tamuri Wigness as our starting point guard for the 2022 campaign.

Wigness is a Cairns junior who has had huge success throughout his junior representative career, representing Australia in 2017 at the FIBA U16 Asian Championships where they won gold, and was named as the starting point guard in the all-tournament team. He then accepted a scholarship in 2017 to attend the NBA Global Academy in Canberra.

Wigness was also a part of the gold medal-winning Australian teams at the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship and the 2019 FIBA Oceania Under-18 Championship, as well as competing for his home nation at the 2018 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup and the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup.

Wigness has been with the Brisbane Bullets for the last 2 seasons, and is looking to cement his spot within the NBL off the back of a huge NBL1 campaign with the Seahawks.

“It’s exciting to be a part of the Seahawks first year in the NBL1 North season” said Wigness.

“For me, winning is the most important thing and with the group that Coach (Luke) McGuire has put together, I believe we can seriously contend for a championship in our first season”

“Playing with Alex (Mudronja) again was also pretty exciting, after playing in the NBL1 competition with the Centre of Excellence, so our combination together will be lethal”

Head Coach for the North Gold Coast Seahawks Men’s side, Luke McGuire, is excited to see Wigness play within his system.

“Tamuri had an exceptional junior career, playing for Australia throughout the years as well as being on NBA radars,” said McGuire

“He’s also starting to put a stamp on his senior career as well, being by far one of the most athletic guards within the league”

“His quickness, partnered alongside his strength, will be a lot to handle for opposition guards when they have to defend him. But what’s even more impressive is what he brings at the defensive end of the floor”

“We are excited to have Tamuri at the Seahawks this season”
