With the NBL1 North 2022 season close to tipping off, the North Gold Coast Seahawks Basketball Association are proud to announce the signing of former Saint Mary’s, and current Illawarra Hawk point guard, Alex Mudronja.
Mudronja had a junior career with the Sturt Sabres before he joined the Centre of Excellence Program at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). Mudronja has also represented Australia nationally, and won a gold medal at the FIBA Oceania competition. He was a member of the South Australian State Basketball Team when they won the U20 Men's Championships in 2017 and was awarded the Bob Staunton Award as the most outstanding player during the 2018 competition.
Head coach for the North Gold Coast Seahawks, Luke McGuire, is pumped to have locked in his starting point guard for the NBL1 North season.
“Mud, as he is more commonly known, is an exceptional player, with his size and strength at the point guard spot will cause opposition teams plenty of issues to deal with,” said McGuire.
“He obviously has had an exceptional junior career, from winning the U20 National Championship, to attending the AIS and onto St Mary’s, we believe Alex is going to help take our group to the next level”
Mudronja is as equally excited as his head coach
“I find it pretty exciting to get to the Seahawks and be a part of their inaugural NBL1 North campaign” said Mudronja
“After speaking with head coach Luke McGuire about the opportunity, and to Jack (McVeigh), I saw it as an awesome opportunity to be a part of the journey for the Seahawks”
“I’m purely focused on my commitments with the Hawks, especially considering they have rewarded me with a 3- year contract, but once this NBL season finishes, I’ll be ready to hit the ground running at the Nest”
