The North Gold Coast Seahawks are proud to congratulate Katie Deeble on signing with the Tasmania Jewels for their inaugural WNBL season, pending League approval.
At just 22 years old, Katie has already developed an impressive basketball résumé. The former Canberra Capitals guard spent time competing in the highly regarded Atlantic Coast Conference with Wake Forest University before returning to Australia and joining the Seahawks in NBL1.
Katie has become an important member of the Seahawks, making an impact with her sharp three-point shooting, relentless defensive pressure and team-first approach.
Her performances have earned her the opportunity to return to the WNBL and become part of history with the Jewels as they prepare for their highly anticipated debut campaign.
Jewels Head Coach Claudia Brassard said Katie’s playing style was an ideal fit for the identity the new club is looking to establish.
“Adding Katie gives us another genuine outside threat and someone who can stretch the floor with her three-point shooting,” Brassard said.
“Just as importantly, she brings the type of full-court defensive pressure we want to be known for.
“Katie has a reputation as a hard worker, a team-first player and someone who competes with real purpose, so she fits perfectly with the standards-led culture we’re building at the Jewels.”
Katie said the opportunity to help build a new WNBL franchise was one she could not pass up.
“To be part of building a team from scratch, it’s history in the making, and I think that’s really cool,” she said.
“We have a really stacked team with so much experience, so I’m focused on learning as much as I can while doing everything I can to help the team succeed.
“I’ve actually never been to Tasmania before, so I’m really excited to get there, become part of the community and experience WNBL game days with the fans.”
Katie joins an experienced Jewels lineup featuring Steph Reid, Keely Froling, Darcee Garbin and Taylor Mole, alongside development players Nikki Parker, Andie Smith, Chloe Broomhall, Portia Chopping, Ava McDonald and Georgia Taylor.
The entire Seahawks community congratulates Katie on this exciting next step in her basketball journey. We are proud to see another Seahawks player earn an opportunity at the elite level and look forward to supporting her as she takes her talents to Tasmania.
