Seahawks bolster interior with veteran Gurney

The North Gold Coast Seahawks are happy to announce the return of fan-favourite David Gurney for NBL1 North 2023.

The 37-year-old veteran brings a wealth of experience and toughness to the group. Gurney was seen in 2022 often with a fierce defensive assignment in the paint guarding opposition bigs, while lighting up the opposition on the other end of the floor.

Gurney would show his offensive proficiency in a big road-win in Townsville last year tallying 29 points and connecting on seven three-point bombs.

Head Coach, Luke McGuire is wrapped to have gotten pen to paper again with Gurney ahead of this season.

“Dave really showed last year that he still has the skill and desire to compete at the highest level, and we are pumped that he’s decided to be on board for the NBL1 season,” said McGuire.

Dave would average 13ppg for the 2022 campaign along with 6rpg.

The challenges faced in 2022 were the catalyst for him re-signing again this season, “I signed on again for one last year. We had too many injuries and hiccups to really see what we could do”.

He went on to express his excitement for this year, “we have a tough group and I’m excited to be part of it”.

“Culture-wise I hope I can hold the boys accountable to our groups expectations and be someone that helps the others develop their game to help our team be successful”.

The team will hit the court at the pre-season Blitz being held at the Northside Indoor Sports Centre from March 10-12 before opening their season at home on March 25 against cross-town rivals Gold Coast at the Nest.
