UNDER-7 MINI-BALL COMPETITION
The Perfect Introduction to Club Basketball
Our Under-7 Mini-Ball competition caters for our youngest competition hoopers and serves as a perfect introduction to playing organised games.
Games are played under modified conditions. Teams only have 4 players on the court at any one time, allowing for greater spacing and more opportunity for players to handle the ball. Everyone loves to make a basket, so games are played on lowered 8.5' hoops as opposed to the regulation 10' hoops. More scoring, and better for the development of sound shooting technique. We also allow coaches on the court with the teams to help direct the players.
Games are played at the $40m 2018 Commonwealth Games venue, Coomera Indoor Sports Centre which features 8 full size basketball courts. From time to time due to venue availability, games could be at Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium, or local schools.
Expect to have your young hooper to be introduced to all of the fundamental skills of basketball. Teams typically train once per week for 1-hour at local schools in the clubs area. Clubs can provide more information about their training times and venues.
2020 TERM 3 SEASON
While we continue to monitor government easing of restrictions we are now anticipating a return to competition in late-July. We are looking forward to having our players back on court soon. Below are some basic outlines of how the delivery of our sport could look like in a Covid Safe environment.
There will be some altered conditions at our venues. Should we be operating under a condition of maximum 100 people inside the venue, you can expect the following:
- Extended time slots to allow for cleaning and sanitisation between games.
- Access to venue only 10 minutes before scheduled start time, after previous time-slot have left and cleaning completed.
- No external balls to be brought in to the venue. A ball will be provided to each team for warm up, one of which will be used as a game ball.
- Limited spectators inside the venue. One person per team may enter in order to score.
Below is our anticipated slightly shortened Term 3 season calendar. We anticipate that we should be at a point where club have been able to form and submit teams so that we can commence competition by the end of July/start of August.
